Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is a state-wide organisation that helps people with their legal problems. We focus on helping and protecting the rights of socially and economically disadvantaged Victorians in areas of criminal law, family law and some civil law matters.
Our services
Our free legal services include:
information over the phone
seminars and workshops
advice at most courts and tribunals, or by appointment.
People who need ongoing help from a lawyer can apply for a grant of legal assistance. Getting a grant will depend on their financial situation and legal problem.
They can use a grant to:
pay a lawyer to help reach agreement or speak for them in court
go to our family dispute resolution service.
Our organisation
VLA has a board of directors, a managing director and seven divisions, including three large in-house legal practice divisions.
We have lawyers in offices in most major metropolitan and country regions.
