The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (Queensland Section) is a major provider of emergency
aeromedical and primary health care services in Queensland. In collaboration with the Commonwealth
and State Governments, we provide for the health and wellbeing of rural and remote Queenslanders through:
- aeromedical retrievals and transfers
- general practice clinics
- child and family health services
- women’s health general practice clinics
- indigenous health services; including chronic disease management
- mental health care services
- holistic social and emotional wellbeing services
- allied health services; including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, diabetes education, nutrition and dietetics.
- health promotion; including community capacity building
- 24 hour medical telephone consultation services
- medical chests
The RFDS has eight bases located throughout Queensland - Brisbane, Bundaberg, Cairns, Charleville,
Mount Isa, Rockhampton, Townsville and Longreach. These bases form a strategic network that facilitates
the effective and efficient delivery of health care throughout the state. RFDS (Qld Section) employs over
350 staff, including medical officers, women’s health doctors, flight nurses, mental health and allied
health professionals, pilots and support staff.
