An opportunity has arisen at Wonthaggi Hospital for a General Surgeon to join other well-regarded visiting consultants. 

Bass Coast Regional Health is a 143-bed integrated health facility providing a range of acute, sub-acute, ancillary medical, aged and ambulatory care services to the Bass Coast Shire in South Gippsland.  It services a resident population of 30,000 which swells to over 85,000 during the peak holiday season.  The 54-bed acute hospital is fully equipped to offer a broad range of specialist surgical, obstetric and medical services.  Aged residential services are provided in two 30-bed nursing homes and a 29-bed hostel.

The recent redevelopment of the hospital includes a state-of-the-art operating suite with an operating room, procedure room, recovery room and specific day-procedure facility. Fully equipped and staffed consulting suites are available on campus to support visiting specialists.

The appointee will have a primary medical qualification registrable in Victoria; be either a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or have a comparable, recognised post-graduate clinical qualification in General Surgery; and have appropriate specialist experience.

The appointment offers an opportunity to work with other visiting surgeons in the provision of general surgery services to hospital patients.

Wonthaggi is within 1.5 hours drive of Melbourne via the South Gippsland Highway and the M1.  It is close to kilometres of pristine beaches and pounding surf, spectacular Cape Paterson and Bunarong Marine Reserve with its panoramic cliff-top views.  Although growing rapidly, Wonthaggi has affordable housing.  Its leisure facilities include an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and heated indoor swimming pool.  Its education facilities include excellent private and public secondary schools.
