DIRECTOR OF CONFRATERNITY OFCHRISTIAN DOCTRINE (CCD)Diocese of Wollongong

The Bishop of Wollongong, Most Reverend Peter Ingham, invites applications for the position of Director of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) for the Diocese of Wollongong. The successful applicant will assume duties in mid-January in readiness for the commencement of the 2010 school year.

The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine is the principal agency by which the Catholic Church reaches out to Catholic children attending government schools. The Director is a member of the Office of the Bishop and collaborates with the Bishop and his leadership team. The Director is responsible to the Bishop for the development, promotion, implementation and management of the activities, events, and programs of the CCD within the Diocese. In fulfilling this role, the Director works closely with the CCD Regional Coordinators, Regional and Parish CCD teams and government school personnel involved in SRE (Special Religious Education) programs.

While the position is based at the Catholic Church Offices, Wollongong, the Director is required to travel around the Diocese to support the local and regional levels of the apostolate. The Director is also required to network with various parish, regional, state and national groups involved in the catechetical ministry of the Church.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A strong commitment to the Catholic faith and an active involvement in the life of the Church.

  • A well-developed understanding of the values fundamental to SRE in NSWgovernment schools and to the catechetical ministry in Parish communities.

  • A genuine desire to promote the faith development and religious knowledge of Catholic students in government schools.

  • Significant experience and training in religious catechesis.

  • Proven, effective organisational, administrative and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and team building.

  • An understanding of current issues in relation to the teaching of SRE in NSW government schools.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification, preferably including a tertiary qualification in either Theology or Religious Education.

  • Competence in using Microsoft Office suite.

  • A current driver’s licence.

A salary package commensurate with qualifications and experience, including a Diocesan car, will be offered to the successful applicant. If the successful applicant is a religious, a stipend will be paid, together with the use of a Diocesan car.
