Manager, Climate Risk

Purpose of the Role
The purpose of this position is to lead and direct the Special Projects Theme within the Queensland Climate Change Centre of Excellence (QCCCE). The position will be responsible for the delivery of key initiatives such as the cloud seeding research project and for providing high level professional management capabilities in the areas of project management, climate variability and change seasonal forecasting, and community engagement to support climate change activities and priorities within the government.
Key Duties
- Lead, develop and promote the delivery of high quality research, products and services in climate science.
- Lead the development and delivery of sectoral climate risk information and advice.
- Lead, develop and implement strategic program and operational project plans, program and project budgets and staff, develop performance targets and evaluate outcomes.
- Work with the QCCCE management team to achieve priorities and facilitate collaboration and cross-business unit projects, and drive and implement change processes.
- Communicate and network effectively with industry, clients, other stakeholders, colleagues and staff to initiate, develop and lead major multi-disciplinary national and international research projects.
- Ensure that intellectual property is effectively managed and protected.
- Contribute to high-level State policy and advice regarding the science of climate variability, climate change and extreme events.
- Critically evaluate climate science information provided by external science providers and assess the relevance to Queensland Government Policy.
- Publish appropriate reports on progress of research and development.
- Motivate staff within the Theme and QCCCE by setting and maintaining challenging goals and performance standards.
- Provide advice on and build knowledge in the areas of project management and climate science, including analysis and diagnostics of climate variability and change, and climate forecast systems to influence strategic and operational planning.
- Lead and manage community engagement activities aimed at increasing community and industry resilience to climate change.
