Postdoctoral Fellows
The James Group at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research is interested in dissecting signalling networks that control insulin action in cultured cells and in animal models of diabetes/obesity. We have been developing quantitative mass spectrometry methods combined with affinity purification methods for identifying novel Akt targets as well as for interrogating changes in the phosphoproteome in response to various agonists, both in normal and insulin resistant cells. In collaboration with clinical researchers at Garvan, we have also begun to translate this information into the phosphoproteome of humans who are either lean, at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, or currently have diabetes.
Two positions are currently available to pursue this work using both biochemical and systems biology approaches. Individuals with expertise in either protein biochemistry/mass spectrometry /protein purification or mathematical modelling of large data sets are encouraged to apply. The positions are for 2 – 3 years duration. Applicants are required to be recent PhD graduates with considerable expertise either in protein biochemistry or in mathematical modelling. Under exceptional circumstances, individuals at the undergraduate level will also be evaluated provided they hold an Honours degree with experience in the relevant areas as above. .
