C/C++ Software Engineer - Two-Way Radio Communication Systems - Infrastructure/Rail Sector - Sydney

The client is a niche provider of two-way radio communications and base station equipment for industrial applications. Having won a large number of long term contracts with key government departments in Australia, the client has a requirement for a senior C/C++ software engineer to work on the enhancements and maintenance of their existing products. Typical products include Base Transceiver Systems, Base Stations, repeater systems and advanced radio communication systems. Such products are integrated with mission critical applications including railway carriages and buses.

The successful C/C++ software engineer engineer will need to have a strong understanding of hardware and embedded systems. The software development is done mainly in C++ on Linux platforms, and candidates are expected to have some programming ability in embedded C. Due to the specific nature of the products, successful candidates will need to have an excellent understanding of serial communication protocols, networking protocols, and routing/switching protocols.

On the non-technical side, you will be working with a small and talented engineering team of experts and be expected to step up into a technical leadership role down the track.

Technical skills required:

• Bachelor degree in Engineering (eg. Telecommunications, Electrical, Computer or other similar disciplines)
• C/C++ programming skills
• Strong interest in software development for Linux and open source platforms
• Solid experience with hardware and embedded systems
• Sound understanding of networking protocols, eg. TCP/IP, UDP
• Strong understanding of cellular communication protocols, eg. GSM, CDMA, HSDPA
• Routing and switching protocols
