Analyst - South Asia Specialist – Canberra Based

  • It’s no secret that ASIO is here to help protect Australia from terrorism and espionage by gathering ????? ????? intelligence and providing advice. This is complex work that involves many activities requiring ????? ????? range of skills and knowledge. Sound analysis and assessment is central.

    The National Threat Assessment Centre (NTAC) in ASIO is an all-source threat assessment capability responsible for assessment and advice to Government on threats relating to terrorism and politically motivated violence in Australia and threats to Australian interests overseas. The Australian Government relies on this analysis for identification of threat trends and to inform protective security advice.
     
    As an Analyst within NTAC you will provide expert advice relating to security issues affecting South Asia. You will have expert knowledge of either Pakistan or Afghanistan, and a good understanding of the other countries of the subcontinent. Your demonstrated ability to conduct analysis will be valued as you provide recommendations and advice to a range of stakeholders. As the subject matter expert you will inform and educate investigative and operational areas. A confident communicator – you will professionally represent ASIO at forums and conferences.
     
    Working in a small team you will provide analytical expertise. Your strong written skills will be utilised as you produce quality research and reports. You will be challenged by having to operate under tight deadlines and still deliver a high standard of work. Your interpersonal skills and collaborative manner are crucial to keeping all stakeholders updated. Relevant language skills are desirable but not essential.
     
    As a Subcontinent expert you have developed your knowledge and understanding from in country experience, academia or relevant work experience. Tertiary qualifications are essential.
     
    From time-to-time the position may require extended work hours in response to operational and priority requirements.
