MEMBERS (FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME) SYDNEY, MELBOURNE, PERTH, ADELAIDE OR BRISBANE

 



 

Applications are invited from persons who wish to be considered for appointment as a full‑time or part-time Member of the Migration Review Tribunal (MRT) and the Refugee Review Tribunal (RRT) in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane.
 
The Tribunals provide independent, merits review of certain decisions of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. The position of Member is a senior public office holder position.  Members are responsible for hearing ????? ????? individual cases in accordance with the Migration Act 1958, the Migration Regulations 1994 and the United Nations Convention and Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees. 
 
The Tribunals’ Registries are located in Sydney and Melbourne where the majority of Members are located. A limited number of Members are located in Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane and operate from Administrative Appeals Tribunal registries in those cities. 
 
Possession of legal qualifications is not essential. However, successful applicants must have a sound understanding of the principles of administrative law concerning migration and refugee decision making.  
 
Successful applicants will have high-level analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, possess a strong sense of fairness and an awareness of cross-cultural issues, be able to exercise impartial judgement and be able to make and write good quality decisions.  
 
The available positions are for full-time and part-time Members. Part-time Members are expected to be available for Tribunal duties for at least two working days per week. Applicants should indicate if they wish to be considered for full-time or part-time positions, or both. Applicants should nominate their preferred location.
