Resulting from the recently announced Federal Government initiative to provide new buildings or upgrade existing facilities in every one of Australia 9540 schools, this is an opportunity to join a world class team on one of the largest and most challenging public projects ever attempted in Australia. The total funding of approximately $3.46 Bn will be spent across a timetable ending in March 2011.
This NSW Government agency is currently seeking a Quantity Surveyor for their Sydney office to work with the Managing Contractor in a cost management role for 3-6 months.
Reporting to the Regional Project Director your main responsibilities will be to:
- Prepare cost plans across numerous building types in conjunction with the Managing Contractors so as to establish budgets and construction costs
- Monitor the reporting of the Managing Contractors for budget movements
- Agree actual construction costs with the Managing Contractors through open book methodologies
- Assess and agree variations and progress claims
- Establish and subsequently adjust benchmark values for use when calculating incentive fees
To be successful in securing this exciting role you will have:
- Proven abilities in cost planning and cost management document preparation – with experience on primary schools and other educational facilities an obvious advantage but not essential
- Experience with major QS software packages such as CostX, Buildsoft, Word & Excel
- First class post contract cost management expertise
- Good familiarity with construction contracts - knowledge of GC21 Conditions of Contract highly regarded but not essential
- Good communication skills and the ability to work in a fast paced team environment
- At least 3-4 years experience in a QS or Estimating role
Hourly rates are available and are dependant on experience and specific expertise. Candidates on 417 working holiday visas should also apply if they intend to work with one emplyer for 6 months.
