Senior Project Manager / Construction Programmer

  • Resulting from the recently announced Federal Government initiative to provide new buildings or upgrade existing facilities in every one of Australia 9540 schools, this is an opportunity to join a world class team on one of the largest and most challenging public projects ever attempted in Australia. The total funding of over $3.5 Bn will be spent across a timetable ending in March 2011.

    The project management office is urgently seeking a Senior Project Manager / Programming Manager to perform an all round role based on project programming and report keeping.
     
    Based in the Sydney CBD and reporting to the Regional Project Directors you will be responsible for the: 
    • Preparation of ad hoc reports and weekly reports for the management team  
    • Development of programs and project timelines
    • Preparation and maintenance of complex spreadsheets and databases
    • Preparation of briefing notes relating to utilities, programming, IT, procurement and funding issues
    • Resolution of issues arising from briefing Managing Contractors (Builders)
    • Management of a small team
    • Liaison with staff regarding project nominations, funding allocations and project variations
    To be an appropriate candidate for this role you will need to be able to:  
    • interface with senior project staff  and managers
    • meet tight deadlines
    • take direction, use initiative and work autonomously
    • read technical drawings and interpret data
    • use the Microsoft suite of programs, particularly Excel, Access, Project and PowerPoint
    • use the Primavera program
    You will also need to have a: 
    • Good understanding of, and experience in, financial management, programming and project management
    • General understanding of estimating
    • Good understanding of School Facility Standards
    • Good general knowledge of building and construction 
    Ideally you will have at least 10 years experience in at least one of the fields of construction programming, project management or procurement.
     
    The contract is initially for 3-6 months with a possible extension – ideally long-term until the end of the program in March 2011. The hours are 38 per week.
