The country of Qatar is currently experiencing an economic boom in economy and industry and has placed an emphasis on a major drive toward development of infrastructure services and construction of projects on a national scale. Our client, the leading government agency for infrastructure development and project management, is growing their specialist teams and now looks to appoint a Water Engineer to their Sewerage Treatment Works.
Responsibilities include:
As a senior member of the Drainage Design management team, responsibilities include:
- Liaison the Technical Affairs Department, the Planning Authority and other government department and utility providers with regard to drainage requirements
- Preparation of strategic plans for the general development in terms of sewage treatment and sewage re use requirements.
- To initiate new work and prepare design briefs for Consultants
- To constantly review current design practice and where necessary modify to suit.
- Review current specifications and apply new technology use with constant update of codes and standards.
- Assess and evaluate developments/catchments and potential sewage generation
- Review Consultants design submissions
- Audit Consultants submissions in terms of quality and conformance to the requirements of the design briefs & standard
- Liaise with Urban Planning Development Authority to secure land for drainage use and to advice on treatment requirements to cater for proposed developments.
- Preparation of cycle reports
- Assist in the preparation of the STW design budget
- Contribution towards updating the Drainage Design Manual
- Responsible for designs and appraisals of all Sewage Treatment Works facilities in the State of Qatar
Key attributes for this role include:
- B.Sc Civil Engineering and must have Professional Registration (Chartered Engineer) from a recognised Professional Institution and must have been registered for at least 10 years.
- Up to 20 years experience in Civil and Public Health Engineering in the disciplines of sewage treatment works.
- Knowledge of international water quality standards pertaining to STW facilities.
- Experience in managing large multidiscipline design projects including : Civil Works, MEICA, Sewage Collection and Conveyance Networks, Forwarding Pumping Stations.
- Experienced in Design and Build type contracts with minimum number of 2 such type of contracts for establishments/upgrades of STW facilities
- Ability to speak and write Arabic would be an advantage.
- Experience in Gulf Region projects of similar nature is preferred
