Are you a Commercial Cookery Apprentice looking for a change or a mature individual with an interest in food ready to kick-start your apprenticeship? MEGT currently have positions available for an Out-of-trade 2nd/3rd year chef and a 1st year apprentice Chef located in a 4 ½ star Resort Restaurant. This is a 3 year apprenticeship requiring dedication and commitment and entails a theory component through TAFE. You will be learning a menu featuring the highest quality local grain & pasture fed beef (the perfect match to Hunter Shiraz) along with many other dishes that use the best quality local ingredients.
 
The successful candidates will possess some food knowledge, have a passion for food and cooking and be willing to learn. Dedication, great presentation and the ability to follow instructions promptly are necessary to be successful in this establishment. This position involves working a 7 day rotating roster and is a great opportunity.
 
Your duties may include but are not limited to:
  • preparing appetisers, salads, stocks, sauces and soups,
  • preparing vegetables, fruit, and eggs dishes,
  • selecting, preparing and cooking poultry, seafood and meat,
  • preparing hot and cold desserts, pastries, cakes and yeast goods
  • mise en place
  • general cleaning and prep
