Varian Australia, an advanced manufacturer with world-class R&D, designs, develops, manufactures and sells advanced scientific instruments for use by customers in wide-ranging industrial, scientific and research markets across the globe.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, this role will oversee the design and development of complex mechanical components and assemblies for new product development projects, from concept to manufacture and in parallel with other design disciplines.
A key focus will be on design team leadership and the inculcation of new design ideas and standards. This will include the fostering of relationships with academic institutions, R&D bodies and design houses and interaction at technical level with customers in support of the Sales and Service functions.
You need considerable depth of design experience associated with high precision mechanical components/assemblies, as well as demonstrable capabilities in design team management. Familiarity with modern design management practices (DFM/DFA, formal design reviews, FMEA, etc), CAD systems and low-volume manufacturing processes are required as are formal qualifications in Mechanical Engineering/Mechatronics. Proven skills in communication, team leadership and project management, and awareness of Lean Manufacturing practices, will be other considerations in selection.
