    Salary:                                      $35.00 per hr

    Reports to:                              Education Manager
    Location:                                 CBD, Melbourne
     
     
    BACKGROUND
     
    The Trust was established in 1985. Its brief is to protect, preserve and promote the living culture of the Indigenous people of South-East Australia. The Trust aims to bridge the cultural gap between Koories and non-Koories by generating greater awareness and understanding.
     
    The Trust houses a diverse range of artworks, crafts, historical material and photographs. Included in the Cultural Centre are four galleries and a Permanent Exhibition that focuses on Indigenous people from South-East Australia. Other activities include performance arts, educational programs, visiting artist exhibitions and workshops.
     
    The Trust also provides a range of programs and services available to the Koorie community and general public including:
     
    • Programs aimed at recording and preserving the Oral History of Koorie people;
    • A service to assist community members trace their family history;
    • An extensive library with material dating back to the early 1800’s; and
    • A retail shop offering ????? ????? of artworks, souvenirs, gifts and greeting cards.

       

    An important part of the Trust’s work is its education programs that are targeted at educating people about Aboriginal culture. These programs are targeted at all age levels. In recent years the demand for Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training has increased significantly. The Trust has responded to this demand by designing and delivering ????? ????? meet the needs of its clients.
     
    Indigenous Cross Cultural Awareness Training (ICCAT) programs shall also be considered as elements of the incumbents cultural interpretation activities under the direction of the Education Manager.
     
    Currently the Trust is responsible for the delivery of ICCAT programs to a number of Government Departments and semi-Government authorities.
     
    DUTIES
     
     
    1.1           Delivery of Cultural Centre Education/Tourism activities.
     
    1.2           Work as a Team-member of the Trust. Incumbent is to be situated within the Education and Library Unit (ELU).
     
    1.3           Input into the development Cultural Centre ELU programs/activities.
     
    1.4           Assist in logistical coordination of Trust programs i.e. ICAT, education/ tourism programs of the Cultural Centre.
     
    1.5           All other duties as directed by the Education Manager within the scope of the incumbent’s skill level and training.
     
     
    KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
     
    2.1           A demonstrated understanding and commitment to Aboriginal culture.
     
    2.2           Extensive knowledge and understanding of Koorie cultures of South-East Australia, and of the historical and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal people in Victoria.
     
    2.3           Demonstrated experience in the delivery of Education/Tourism Cultural Programs.
     
    2.4           Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.
     
    2.5           Demonstrated client service and interpersonal skills including oral and written communication skills with experience in dealing with members of the public, government and non-government agencies.
     
    2.6           Demonstrated time and group management skills.
     
     
    OTHER SKILLS
    Desirable but not mandatory skills:
     
    3.1           Teacher and/or vocational education and training qualifications.
