Currently seeking a Manager, Student Governance, the Students Portfolio, under the leadership of the Pro-Vice Chancellor Students, is accountable for identifying the characteristics, needs and aspirations of the different groups of RMIT students and prospective students. The Portfolio includes the Academic Registrar’s Group, the Student Services Group and the RMIT Union.

The Student Governance Unit provides the final point of review of student related decisions made by the University.  Any review of student related decisions initiated by the RMIT Ombuds, Ombudsman Victoria, Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission or the Federal Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission is referred to the Unit for development of the University’s response.

A key priority for the role of Manager, Student Governance is to enhance the University’s capability to handle complex student cases involving multiple issues and stakeholders, are high impact and may represent risk to the University.  The Manager, Student Governance will provide advice to other groups within the University on such matters to ensure staff are well supported, risk is managed and students’ issues are dealt with fairly and appropriately. 

The Manager, Student Governance is responsible for managing the work of the Unit which provides professional support to the operations of the University Appeals Committee and the University Discipline Board.  In addition the Unit provides secretariat services to the Academic Board, the Policy and Programs Committee and the VET Committee.

The Manager, Student Governance Unit works closely with the other functional managers in the Academic Registrar’s Group to coordinate activity and improve service delivery for the whole of the University both on and offshore.

As the successful candidate, you will hold a postgraduate tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and / or substantial relevant work experience.

Personal resilience, as well as the capacity to build resilience in the team is essential, as is experience in the management of initiatives to strengthen organisational capability to address concerning behaviours.

Substantial management experience in leading a high performing specialist team in a complex education environment, exceptional interpersonal skills, and an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders will also contribute to your success in this role.
