RN Div 1 - Medical/RAP Unit Nursing Specialist Year Program

 



A temporary, full time opportunity exists in Geelong for a Grade 2 nurse to explore this specialty area of acute nursing within a supported clinical environment.

Clinical support and assessment is undertaken by experienced nursing staff and/or Clinical Nurse Educator. The Clinical Nurse Educator will meet with the Specialist nurse on a regular, scheduled basis to review completion of clinical hurdles, review learning needs and clinical experience. A Preceptorship program is in place.

Clinical experience will focus on developing patient assessment skills and interventions aimed at providing optimal patient outcomes. Clinical assessments comprise 50% of the program and include completion of clinical hurdle assessments; setting clinical objectives; and clinical progress appraisal. Appraisals will be conducted at regular intervals throughout the year.

The theoretical component will enable the nurse to explore and develop a basic knowledge of acute nursing. This component includes study day attendance, an assignment and a presentation. The Centre for Education and Practice Development provides financial assistance for study day attendance.

The positions will commence 1st February 2010. On successful completion of this 52-week program, a hospital certificate will be awarded and participants can apply for advanced standing toward tertiary study.
