As a partner with some of the strongest Defence companies in Australia, we are seeking a Purchasing Officer to be based in Melbourne. This is a key role within a fast growing SME that is continuing to gather momentum within Defence Industry.

Reporting to the Production Manager, this is a diverse role that will encompass a wide range of activities in support of the day to day materials management activities across the business. Working within a small team, the successful applicant will hit the ground running by assisting with the installation and maintenance of the Company's new ERP system.

The role:

• Develop and maintain efficient and cost effective procurement processes, supply contracts and supplier relationships
• Support the engineering team through the provision of high quality components, materials and manufacturing services that comply with Company and Defence Quality Management Systems - includes auditing of suppliers
• Establish and maintain an efficient inventory management system, including a small store capability
• Inspection of technical stores on receipt and ensure the supporting documentation / certificates of compliance are available
• Ensure that IP, Defence Security and confidentiality obligations are maintained, as they apply to materials management

Requirements:

• Applicants must be versatile self starting and enjoy working with people
• Purchasing experience with regards to supplier management, materials management and ERP systems is essential
• Experience within a production or manufacturing environment  - ideally electronics assembly / digital electronics / micro-controllers
• Technical or trade qualifications in an engineering discipline is highly desirable (electrical, mechanical or electronic)\
• Eligible for a Defence Security Clearance (Australian Citizenship) is preferred

Strong communication skills and an ability to plan, schedule and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines are essential for this position. The ideal candidate will have skills in production process management and highly developed relationship management skills.
