Assistant Accountant

Duties:
- Maintain and co-ordinate an investment and cash flow analysis, which complies with Council's investment program.
- Administer and monitor maturity of term deposits and make recommendations based on analysis of cash flow and best available rate.
- Liaise with Banking Institutions to arrange new term deposits, maturity or redemption of term deposits.
- Maintain up-to-date Investment Register and provide reports to senior officers.
- Initiate and key GL journals and check for errors.
- Completion, in a timely manner, the monthly and year-end reconciliations of all bank accounts including the General Account, investment accounts, loan accounts and various other asset and liability accounts.
- Reconcile and maintain trust accounts and the unclaimed monies register.
- Maintain a register of government grants.
- Assist Financial Accountant with Council's Annual Financial Statements.
- Provide periodic reports on bank account status to Financial Accountant.
- Ensure that importing and interfaces from AP, AR, Purchasing and Electronic Funds Transfers are updated daily.
- Maintenance of Residential Care facilities accounts balances and reconciliations.
- Assist the Financial Accountant with the monthly investment account status reports to Finance Manager.
- Provide support to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable areas as requested by the Financial Accountant.
- Provide assistance where necessary to the Management Accountant and Systems Accountant.
Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting processes and practices, and treasury functions.
- Proficiency in the use of Oracle Financials, programs associated with the Microsoft Windows suite and efficient keyboard skills.
- Good knowledge of GST treatment of transactions and implications associated with these treatments.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- People skills, which ensures that objectives are achieved with a high level of ownership and commitment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting or associated discipline.
