The Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) is a not-for-profit organisation that specialises in placing and mentoring Aboriginal people into employment. We work with Aboriginal people who want to make a change in their lives.
The AES is the vehicle for Corporate Australia to engage Aboriginal people; we are the link between business and the Aboriginal community. Our corporate partners include some of Australia's largest company as well as local businesses in your community.
The successful candidate will be full time based at our Maitland Office.
Job Description
Working to the AES strategic plans you will be responsible to coordinate employment related activities by working with Corporate Australia businesses, local businesses and the Aboriginal community to promote the vision of the AES company. You will be responsible to assess, refer and place clients in to employment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities will include
- Adhering to the AES code of Conduct and an understanding of the AES Ethos and Culture
- Positively promoting a working relationship between the Indigenous and non Indigenous community along with Corporate Australia and local small businesses
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal people
- Interviewing, assessing and referring clients based on skill level and needs
- Establish relationships with businesses
- Develop and implement employment career action plans with clients, review and evaluate plans as clients needs and circumstances change
- Maintain AES data bases Aptify and EA 3000 in accodance with contractual requirements
- Administer functions associated with planning workloads and clients files
- Participate in office and/or community cultural events
- Prepare reports for manager as required
- Bring innovative approaches to support the needs of the unemployed Aboriginal community
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required
Essential Criteria
- Aboriginality
- Understanding of local Aboriginal community needs and issues they face
- Understanding and strong knowledge of current industry skills shortage areas within the local community and also on a National level
- Excellent understanding of people, problems and mentoring requirements
- Excellent written communication skills and ability to prepare reports
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Excellent people management and leadership skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft suite
- Highly developed organisational and time management skills
- Experience in handling confidential information and maintaining confidentiality
- Ability to work through workplace compliance processes
- Knowledge and understanding oh OH&S and EEO
- Certificate IV in Employment Services or equiviland or willingness to obtain
- Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment or willingness to obtain
- Certificate II in Mentoring or willingness to obtain
- Experience in providing mentoring
- Experience in Employment Services
- Current drivers licence
