Gastronomy is seeking an ambitious young Australian (or New Zealander) who wants to learn cooking from the best.

Gastronomy is a multi award-winning caterer based in Kensington. We are well established, highly organised and have an internal team of talented international chefs. We have a full time kitchen team of 12 senior qualified chefs, 6 apprentices, 2 cooks plus over 25 part time or casual staff. We produce top sustainable food for corporate and event clientele using Sydney's best produce. Our suppliers include Craig Cummins Seafood, Matt Brown’s Greens and Vic’s Meats.

You will be a creative, be good at team activities and be a quick learner. You will need to be a good communicator, and take direction well. You will need to love good food and produce, and want to try new types of produce and cuisine to expand your knowledge and experience. You will be willing to taste a variety of foods and cuisines.

We will help you become a talented chef, and teach you to understand best practice catering.

This position involves 5 straight shifts per week. During the TAFE semester, you will work 4 shifts and the fifth will be going to TAFE. You will be working in our kitchens as well as at venues, corporate or private functions.

The pay for a first year apprentice is $297.16/week + regular overtime, so you will probably have to have a support network around you (i.e. live at home). There are direct subsidies from the federal and state government as well.

Gastronomy focuses on the service of top quality food and draws its influences from the cultural experiences of its Chefs. As a result, the cuisine of classical French cookery dominates a menu that has drawn from Tuscany, Naples, Bali, Asia and Japan. Gastronomy uses and actively promotes ethically and sustainably farmed local produce, or fairly traded and environmentally consciously farmed if sourced from overseas (ie coffee)
