Aboriginal Co-ordinator/Counsellor
Full-time Aldavilla (Kempsey)
New Project 3 years
This position is a newly created position within SHINE for Kids. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated person who is highly skilled at working with local Aboriginal communities and organisations to assist Aboriginal offenders reintegrate back into their community at the end of their sentence and who is able to establish a new project.
The successful person will need to be highly flexible and able to develop this project within the local community.
SHINE for Kids provides a range of programs to children with a parent in the criminal justice system and their families.
This position is funded by the Australian Government, Attorney-General's Department, Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
Essential:
Identify and be accepted by the Aboriginal community as an Australian Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander person.
Proven knowledge, appreciation and understanding of Aboriginal culture, social and economic issues and the needs of the community.
Proven experience with working with Aboriginal offenders and their families.
Experience and/or understanding of issues that face children of prisoners.Compatibility with and understanding of issues related to working within a child focus agency.
Experience with supervising staff and developing and managing a new project.
Demonstrated experience working with clients with domestic violence and drug and alcohol issues and providing support and counselling to Aboriginal families.
Demonstrated computer literacy with Microsoft Applications.
Driver's Licence
Understanding of EEO & OH&S.
Salary: SACS Award, Grade 6 (salary range up to $64,077) + superannuation, and ability to salary sacrifice. The successful applicant will be required to serve an initial probationary period of 3 months which may be extended if necessary.
