    Duties
     
    The Museum
     
    The National Museum of Australia opened in early 2001 as the Commonwealth flagship for the Centenary of Federation celebrations and has broken new ground by combining the best contemporary exhibition techniques with new media technologies.
     
    It has become a landmark among Australian museums in the quality and high standard of its exhibitions, public programs and the integrated use of technologies.
    The Museum has won many awards for its architecture, building and services.
     
    Responsibilities of the Section
     
    The Content Development section is responsible for curatorial work associated with the Museum’s collections, research, exhibitions and public programs. It has three theme-based areas – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples; Australian Society and Culture, and People and the Environment.
     
    The Indigenous Liaison Officer will responsible for:
     
    • Providing support and advice to staff seeking assistance in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
    • Providing support and advice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people seeking assistance in engaging with staff.
    • Providing advice and support to other Museum staff and business units regarding Indigenous issues.
    • Liaising with Indigenous communities and individuals over the activities of the Museum
    • Representing the Museum in all areas
    • Providing secretariat support for museum committees
    • Assisting with cultural awareness training
    • Provide advice to, and support for, Indigenous staff

    Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified term
    Non-ongoing for 15 months with the possibility of extension
