Organisational Environment
The position is located within the Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research (C-PAN) in the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, one of several schools in the Faculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing and Behavioural Sciences. Staff within the Centre report to the Dean through the Head of School. Staff within the Centre are heavily involved with research into the promotion of healthy eating and the prevention of obesity in socioeconomically disadvantaged women and children. The appointee will be actively involved in research concerned with the development and intellectual leadership of an intervention study aimed at promoting healthy eating in women; as well as research identifying personal, social and environmental influences on nutrition. The appointee, in association with more senior academic staff, will contribute to consulting, industry partnerships and professional activities. The appointee will liaise with students at all levels.
Principal Accountabilities
The appointee is responsible for:
- Contributing to a program of research concerned with nutrition promotion and population health, particularly a funded intervention study focused on healthy eating in women;
- Developing an active research record in publication and assisting in the generation of external research income;
- Participating with senior colleagues in developing and maintaining links and partnerships with industry and the wider community;
- Undertaking appropriate administrative tasks.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Teaching and learning
This is a research only position funded by a NHMRC grant. However, the appointee:
May make a contribution to the Faculty’s postgraduate teaching programs that is consistent with the University’s mission and core commitments;
- May supervise honours and HDR students, ensuring ????? ????? timely completions. May advise students regarding teaching and learning.
Research
- In collaboration with other senior colleagues, provide intellectual leadership to a funded research intervention study aimed at promoting healthy eating amongst women.
- Engage in other existing research projects, including those with senior colleagues and postgraduate students.
- Develop new research initiatives in collaboration with senior colleagues and postgraduate students.
- Develop research proposals and actively seek external funding from funding agencies such as the NHMRC, ARC, Heart Foundation and philanthropic trusts.
- Participate in the supervision and training of Honours and Postgraduate Research Students.
- Conduct statistical analyses and prepare papers for conference presentation and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Contribute to the School/Faculty’s research activity and national profile.
Service
- Provide leadership to junior colleagues in the areas of research and/or professional activities relevant to nutrition promotion.
- Participate in the development and/or maintenance of links and partnerships with industry and relevant professional bodies and the community.
- Perform administrative tasks commensurate with position responsibilities and contribute to processes that enable the effective operation of the School.
- Attend appropriate staff development courses as the need arises and participate in the University's Performance Planning and Review program.
- Assist with School, Faculty and University committees and carry out other duties as directed by the Dean or Head of School.
Occupational Health and Safety
