Position Purpose
This position coordinates the development, maintenance and administration of the Centre for Teaching Asian Languages and Cultures to carry out the project “Building Effective Partnerships to Increase Teacher Supply and Enhance the Quality of Asian Languages Education”, funded by the Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). The Project Coordinator will assist the project team in meeting the Centre’s objectives to coordinate and promote strategic partnerships with a variety of key stakeholders in order to:
- ensure the continuing supply of quality Asian language teachers to education systems in Australia;
- support teaching practices and initiatives in partner-schools and school clusters by providing short-term professional development and teacher retraining courses for Asian language teachers; and
- develop curriculum resources and materials to enhance the teaching of Asian languages and studies of Asia in Australian schools.
Principal Accountabilities
- Oversee the organisation and monitoring ????? ????? project activities, ensuring ????? ????? operates to meet strategic and budgetary targets.
- Provision of high level administrative management, policy and procedure development and expert advice to the Director on issues related to the Centre’s management.
- Administer the implementation of new partnerships or relationships with schools, ethnic communities and education jurisdictions.
- Manage daily activities, including liaison with local schools and community groups and state, federal and overseas partners/collaborators.
- Manage financial processes through the Deakin finance system consistent with the Centre’s budget and in accordance with University guidelines, policy and procedures.
- Collaborate with the marketing team in the Faculty of Arts and Education to promote the project and recruit students.
- Oversee the organisation and delivery of overseas in-country study units.
- Undertake the development and maintenance of a web page to promote the Centre and its services to stakeholders and students.
- Ensure the implementation of all relevant University policies in particular those in relation to equal opportunity, Occupational Health and Safety, staff development and staff performance, planning and review.
Typical Duties
- Coordinate key project activities to ensure effective and timely implementation.
- Ensure the effective operation of the Centre in meeting its operational and strategic targets.
- Manage the Centre’s budget through developing effective systems to facilitate compliance and monitoring ????? ????? reports and processes.
- Coordinate, monitor and report on the delivery of LOTE teacher and language education programs and overseas in-country study units.
- Undertake executive officer responsibilities for meetings of the project team and the Advisory Board, including scheduling of meetings, agenda construction in consultation with the Director, preparation of briefings and other documentation, drafting minutes and managing follow-up activities.
- Liaise with local schools and community groups as well as with state, federal and overseas project partners.
- Coordinate the preparation of progress and final reports and financial statements in accord with project deliverables and university guidelines.
- Coordinate the Centre’s marketing activities and maintain the Centre’s web page to promote its activities and ensure accuracy and currency of information.
- Oversee the management of new partnerships including establishing and maintaining effective records to ensure reliable and accurate information.
- Conduct project evaluations within timelines.
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities as required and directed by the Centre’s Director
