Senior Strategic Planner

Council for this thriving middle ring ????? ????? seeking to appoint an experienced, energetic and ambitious planning professional to join their busy strategic planning team engaged in a wide variety of major projects of both local and state significance. Specifically, you can expect your role to encompass the following key responsibilities: - Identification of strategic land use planning directions and priorities within the municipality
- Conducting research, investigation and analysis into land use planning issues
- Managing the structure planning process for several principal activity centres across the municipality
- Administration of the Municipal Planning Scheme
- Coordination and preparation of major planning scheme amendments
- Public consultation on strategic planning matters
- Implementation of Melbourne 2030 as it relates to the City of Whitehorse
- Provision of ongoing advice to Council, community groups and other key stakeholders with regards to the application of local and state planning policy and significant strategic planning issues
- Management of external consultants engaged in strategic projects for council, including the development of briefs and evaluation of tenders
- Assisting the Coordinator in the mentoring ????? ????? of the team, including deputising in their role when necessary
To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate the following skills and experience: - Relevant tertiary qualification in town planning or similar
- Several years experience as a Strategic Planner working within Victorias legislative framework, including a thorough understanding of the statutory and operational requirements of local government, Victorian Planning Provisions and the requirements of the Planning and Environment Act 1987
- A solid grasp of the aims and objectives of Melbourne 2030 and its implications for local council
- High level problem solving skills, including the ability to interpret and assess a number of alternative options
- Advanced organisation, time and task management skills, with the ability to manage changing priorities, conflicting demands and sustain motivation and momentum during ????? ????? ambiguity
- Superior communication skills with demonstrable experience liaising with, and gaining the support of a variety of stakeholder groups, including ability to influence others to consider and adopt new ideas
- Political savvy and sensitivity to different perspectives
