    About the Gippsland Area

    Bairnsdale, the western gateway to the Lakes and Wilderness region of East Gippsland, still retains the quiet country pace and fresh air that you don't get in a bigger city. On the banks of the Mitchell River, Bairnsdale manages to retain a unique atmosphere as the commercial and administrative hub of the region.

    With a population of approximately 12,000, Bairnsdale is only a 3 hour drive from Melbourne, which means that high city life is still within easy reach. Boasting a full range of modern facilities, major city shopping and a great variety of accommodation and eating houses, Bairnsdale is an ideal base from which to enjoy the many natural attractions and curiosities of the stunning surrounding country.

    About the Opportunity

    In February 2009, Gippsland Lakes Community Health (GLCH) was successful in becoming a Child FIRST site under the Children, Youth & Families Act 2005, creating a fantastic opportunity for an Intake & Assessment Worker to join their team in Bairnsdale.

    Child FIRST (Family Information Referral Services Team) focuses on using the Best Interest Framework to respond to child well being concerns.
    Working as part of the Family, Youth and Children Services (FYCS) Unit, you will be applying the Integrated Family Violence Common Risk Assessment Framework to Family Violence referrals and will also provide initial needs identification and comprehensive assessments for clients requiring ????? ????? programs within the FYCS unit.

    GLCH is a fantastic organisation to become a part of, with an inclusive, innovative and supportive culture. Values of social justice, respect, empowerment, participation, quality and accountability are clearly articulated, understood and integrated at all levels.

    The successful candidate will be rewarded with attractive total remuneration based on the SACS Award circa $47,000 - $57,000  (commensurate with skills, experience and/or qualifications).

    In addition, salary packaging options will be made available, which allow employees to receive a portion of their salary in a form other than take-home pay. As a community health organisation, GLCH can offer you $16,049 of your income salary packaged per annum. This figure is FBT exempt and no tax is payable on this amount.

    Further to this, the organisation offers each permanent employee the opportunity to reduce the tax payable on their income in the following ways:
    • Meals expenditure - a maximum of $5000 deduction from an employee's taxable earnings, which is reimbursed directly to the employee;
    • Remote area housing - this is based on 50% of the interest paid on your mortgage for your principal residence in East Gippsland;
    • Notebook computer - a deduction from an employee's taxable earnings for the purchase price of one notebook computer per annum, which is reimbursed directly to the employee; and
    • Option for private use of GLCH vehicle through packaging a component of the salary.
    This is an extremely satisfying and rewarding role, and the successful incumbent will finish each working day knowing they have improved the lives of others and truly made a difference within the community.
