Registered Nurses Psychiatric Emergency Care

 



Applications are invited from Registered Nurses to join our dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team providing assessment, treatment and care for clients with mental health disorders / illnesses and those experiencing mental health crisis living in the inner city area. This position involves working in both St Vincent’s Hospital PECC and in a liaison role within St Vincent’s Hospital Emergency Department facilitating and co-ordinating mental health assessment and treatment and presents an exciting opportunity to enhance your skills in Emergency Mental Health.

You will be required to work a 7 day rotating roster.

Essential criteria:

  • Current NSW Nurses & Midwives Board “Authority to Practice” as a Registered Nurse
  • Maintains a professional standard of conduct which reflects the mission and values of the Sisters of Charity
  • Competency in mental health assessment and management of persons with an acute mental illness
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary health care team 
  • Commitment to working with consumers and their carers to facilitate their involvement in the development of their own treatment /care plans   
  •  Demonstrated commitment to own personal and professional development
  • Aggression minimisation and conflict resolution skills
  • Willingness to participate in Quality Improvement activities and nursing research initiatives.

Desirable criteria:

  • Understanding of MHOAT standardised reporting tools
  • Conversant with the NSW Mental Health Act 2007
  • Computer literacy
