Community Officers - Woodlands Conservation

 



Three positions - one each in Murrumbidgee, Lachlan and Central West regions of NSW.

Project title: Communities in Landscapes (Caring ????? ????? Country)

Employer: Landcare NSW Inc

Hours: 3 days per week (0.6 EFT) of a 37.5 hr week

Salary/Conditions: $52,000 per-annum pro-rata, 2 year contract (November 2009 - November 2011) including superannuation. 

Communities in Landscapes is a multi-partner project designed to achieve significant on-ground outcomes through community and agency conservation action on Box-Gum Grassy Woodland remnants in the Murrumbidgee, Lachlan and Central West regions of New South Wales. Working at the direction of the project management team (Landcare and Conservation Management Network), the Community Woodlands Officers will work directly with community environmental groups, land manager groups and partner organisations to support and develop community awareness and action to integrate conservation and production across Woodlands.

The Community Woodlands Officer is responsible for:

  • Working directly with Landcare, Conservation Management Network and other land manager groups to identify needs and opportunities for education and small project development

  • Communicating community needs and opportunities to project partners

  • Coordinating the promotion, logistics and delivery of workshops, field days and other educational and awareness events

  • Assisting project partners with the development and delivery of educational resources for best practice management of woodlands.

  • Liaison in the field with other relevant agencies

  • Assisting project partners with native flora and site identification

  • Assist community groups with small project planning and proposals

  • Provide community liaison for devolved grant scheme for community/land manager group projects

Essential

  • Demonstrable knowledge of native flora and fauna

  • Qualification or equivalent in NRM, Agriculture or Environmental Science

  • Demonstrable experience and passion for working with people and community groups

  • Appreciation of issues facing land managers in primary production

  • Belief in engaging and empowering ????? ????? to work towards increasing biodiversity and sustainable land management

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative whilst also being able to work as a member of a team

  • Current drivers licence and flexibility to travel within region

  • Excellent communication skills to represent the project to the community

Desirable

  • Digital media skills to document and record community projects

  • Ability to identify and seek media opportunities to promote biodiversity and community outcomes

  • Knowledge of the agencies and organisations in the region with catchment and land management interests or responsibilities and/or Box-Gum Woodlands and threatened species recovery.
