Head of External Relations

  • The Australian Synchrotron (AS) is a major national facility which provides researchers from Australia, New Zealand and overseas with an important tool for a wide range of fields of scientific and industrial research. The synchrotron provides electromagnetic radiation, from infra red to hard X‑rays, to a variety of experiment stations. It operates as a facility which can be accessed by any scientist around the world on a peer review proposal system.   External users are allocated fixed periods of time and are supported at the ASCo to perform their experiments.

     
    Reporting to the Facility Director, the Head of External Relations will be primarily responsible for managing the relationships with external AS stakeholders and the wider community. The Head of External Relations is responsible for leading a team that provides for, Media, Marketing, Communications, Business Development - Industry Liaison and Outreach / Education Programs, Events Management, Publications, and extensive external stakeholder communication.
     
    The role is responsible for the leadership, management and co-ordination of communications, support, access, and finance raising opportunities. The role will act as the day to day interface between AS and the wider community.
     
     The successful applicant will demonstrate
    •  Experience in providing objective leadership to professional team members
    • Expert level marketing, business development and communications management experience, delivering ????? ????? sustainable image for AS 
    • Strong capability in coordinating programs with multiple senior stakeholders i.e. Government agencies, universities, industry bodies
    • Experience working in a scientific environment
    • An understanding of technology and how a scientific organisation can lever success from strong external relations
    • Delivery of major cross organizational funding agreements through development grants, mergers, acquisitions or consortiums
