Librarian Children's & Youth Services - Team Leader

 



A fantastic opportunity exists for an experienced and qualified Librarian to join our Library Services.

 
As Team Leader, you will provide leadership and supervision for our Children’s and Youth Services Team and coordinate and conduct regular programs and activities for young people who use our Libraries, including: preschool storytime, baby rhymetime, lapsit programs and after school and school holiday activities.  
 
You will also maintain and manage the ongoing development of our children’s and youth collections.
 
Our Libraries are one of our most popular and often used facilities in our local area with over 2,200 visitors per day.    We provide high quality collections for our users and part of your role will be to ensure that these collections are well suited to the particular needs and interests of our community.
 
To be successful in this role you will be able to lead and motivate a professional team, have excellent communications skills and have an affinity with books and a passion for customer service.
 
You will need to be available for evenings and weekend work.
 
Essential:
 
  • Tertiary qualifications (University Degree) in Library and Information Science allowing professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association
  • Ability to formulate collection development and selection policies for children’s and young adults materials, consistent with library policy
  •  Ability to develop a strategic plan for library services to children and youth
  • Experience in selecting appropriate materials and developing Children and Youth Collections
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and train staff
  •  Computer skills
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence
 
Desirable:
 
  • Public library experience, preferably in the provision of services to children and youth
  •  Experience in designing, implementing and evaluating programs for children of all ages
  • Knowledge of local government
 Salary is within the range of $1,152.68 to $1,241.30 per week.
 
This position is subject to a ‘Working with Children Check’.
