As the Economist, you will be responsible for developing policies for the benefit of the rail industry. You will use your excellent communication skills to develop policy in a collaborative manner, liaising extensively with industry and other stakeholders. Reporting to the Director, you will be a team player who is focussed on outcomes rather than processes. With strategic problem solving skills, you will be able to identify issues and develop appropriate solutions accordingly.
Major responsibilities will include: o policy development and analysis; o economic analysis; o preparation of submission and reports; and o stakeholder liaison and engagement.
Issues may include: o regulatory reform, government financial and other policy; o government transport and planning policy; o industry improvements to infrastructure, rolling stock, operations and technology; o government processes, structures and systems; and o other reforms and improvements.
General activities include: o Monitor changes, trends and policy issues around passenger and freight transport, for rail and other modes o Manage projects and consultants as required o Manage development of significant policy documents Preparing ????? ????? o Identify and drive future research opportunities o Collaborate with the CRC for Rail Innovation on research projects o Creating, as well as using, various econometric modelling techniques to develop forecasts;
As the successful candidate, you will have a few years' relevant experience and possess highly developed economic and general policy research ability, alongside strong written and verbal communication skills. It is important that you are able to work collaboratively and that you have a flexible approach. A strong understanding of government policy, structures and operation is vital and it will be looked upon favourably if you are able to demonstrate an understanding of the transport industry, particularly the rail sector. Finally, it is important that you are willing to travel on occasion.
