GOVERNMENT RELATIONS MANAGER

 

  • Leading national not for profit – Health related

  • Canberra or Melbourne based

  • Spearhead government relations and have real impact
  • This permanent full-time position will drive government relations for a growing, national peak body for a significant and largely preventable cause of death and disability that affects hundreds of thousands of Australians every year. 

    The organisation is committed to saving livesand operates out of a head office in Melbourne with staff working around the country and also works in key alliance partnerships with other major health NGOs in its advocacy efforts.
     
    This position provides an outstanding opportunity to support the ongoing growthof the organisation, by developing and implementing strategies to influence government contacts, policy makers and other stakeholders on key issues in prevention, awareness, treatment, support and research.
     
    Reporting directly to the CEO,  you will establish and develop relationships with key contacts at national and state level and assist in positioning the organisation as the pre-eminent authority for Federal and State Ministers, Shadow Ministers, Members of Parliament, Ministerial advisors, senior public servants and key opinion leaders.
     
    The role also offers the opportunity to coordinate input into legislative reviews, consultations and inquiries, increase awareness within the organisation of the political environment and optimum ways to work with government, provide input to speech writing and media releases, and to research and provide input into policy documents for internal and external audiences.
     
    A strategic networker by nature, you have significant experience in government relations and political advocacy, extensive relevant networks, a solid understanding of policy frameworks and processes and proven experience in developing and executing a strategic government relations plan.
     
    Naturally, you will possess superior communication and interpersonal skills, strong influencing, relationship management and negotiating skills and highly developed analytical and conceptual abilities.
