Forensicare, is a statutory agency that was established to provide forensic mental health services in Victoria.
These are services that are required to meet the needs of mentally disordered offenders, the mental health and justice
sectors and the community.
Forensicare provides high quality assessment and treatment for people who have a mental disorder and history of
criminal offending or who present a serious risk of offending behaviour. In doing so, Forensicare is an effective link for
people, organisations and government between the justice and mental health sectors.
Forensicare’s vision is to provide leadership at an international, national and local level in the understanding
and treatment of mental disorders associated with criminal behaviour. A strategic priority of the organisation is to
improve access and outcomes for consumers, health services and other agencies, families and carers.
While the primary focus of Forensicare is the provision of clinical services, a comprehensive research program
operates and specialist training and professional education is provided for our staff and the broader mental health
field.
