Course overview
In today's world, information has pervaded every aspect of business organisations. As such, the study of Information Systems and the supporting technology is vital for any student entering the business world. The emphasis is on the effective use of information and information technology within an organisation and the development of systems for solving business problems.
The Bachelor of Technology (Information Systems) aims to create information systems (IS) professionals who add value to the organisation by having both a strong technical background and the ability to liaise with team members and other stakeholders including clients.
The degree incorporates a breadth of knowledge around the technology fundamentals including programming, databases, networking and web design. An appreciation of the overall architecture of information systems and design issues around human-computer interaction are an integral part of the degree course.
The course curriculum provides students with skills in communication, requirements analysis, information systems lifecycles and development, Information Systems strategy, research and project management.
Course structure
To receive the award of Bachelor of Technology (Information Systems), students must successfully complete 24 units, and meet the following requirements:
- At least eight units must be Swinburne University of Technology units
- Complete the Information Systems Major consisting of 12 core units AND
- Complete 12 electives OR
- Complete 1 Co-major sequence of 8 units plus 4 electives OR
- Complete 2 minor sequences of 4 units (8 in total), plus 4 electives OR
- Complete 1 minor sequence of 4 units plus 8 electives
Entry requirement
In order to be eligible for a Commonwealth supported place, students must meet the following requirements:
- 3 OUA Undergraduate units or equivalent at pass level
