There are 700,000 family carers in Victoria; people who provide care and support for a family member or friend with a disability, mental illness, chronic
condition, or who is frail.
Carers Victoria is the statewide peak organisation representing and
supporting family carers in Victoria.
Supporting family carers
At times, carers need assistance to enable them to sustain their caring
responsibilities, maintain their health and wellbeing and participate in family,
social and community life, employment and education.
Carers Victoria can provide information and referral to link carers to the
services they need. Some carers may benefit from talking to a counselor
about the range of emotions they may be experiencing. We also offer
education programs that provide carers with information and skills to support
their caring situations.
Carers Victoria is committed to the design and development of new services
and programs; services that take a holistic approach to the care situation, and
promote choice in care options.
The voice of carers
Carers need access to high quality and flexible services, a greater range of
caring and support options, improved carer entitlements, and supports to
balance work and family responsibilities.
Carers Victoria works with family carers, carer support groups, service
providers, government departments, and corporate and community
organisations to promote the needs of family carers and advocate for more
and improved services.
Through our research and policy development, we work to influence and
increase government, community and corporate support so that carers can enjoy improved health, wellbeing resilience and financial security.
Caring is a shared community responsibility
Carers Victoria is committed to caring as a shared responsibility of family,
community, business and government.
This vision of shared responsibility for caring will be achieved through
changes to legislation, policy, service systems, regulation, new models of care
and increased public awareness and respect for carers.
