Banyule is located between 7 and 22 kilometres north-east of central Melbourne and includes the suburbs of Bundoora, Greensborough, St Helena, Eltham North, Watsonia, Watsonia North, Yallambie, Montmorency, Briar Hill, Lower Plenty, Macleod, Rosanna, Viewbank, Heidelberg West, Heidelberg Heights, Ivanhoe, Bellfield, Heidelberg, East Ivanhoe and Eaglemont.

The City covers an area of approximately 63 square kilometres, clearly defined by the Yarra River and Darebin Creek along its southern and western boundaries respectively. Consequently the majority of the municipality has quite strongly dissected topography and ranges from gently to steeply undulating.

 


Banyule is bounded by the municipalities of Nillumbik and Whittlesea, generally to the north, Manningham generally to the east, Boroondara to the south and Darebin to the west. It lies between inner Melbourne and the outer rural areas, and provides a balance between the attributes of those areas

Banyule City Council employees approximately 900 people and provides a wide range of Local Government services including general infrastructure services, recreation and community.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The conditions of employment are determined by:

•  Relevant Industrial Award for the classification;
•  The Banyule City Council Enterprise Bargaining Certified Agreement: and
•  The Victorian Local Government Award 2001

SUPERANNUATION
All new employees become members of Local Authorities Super Scheme “Vision Super” (formerly LASPLAN) which is an Accumulation Plan funded in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee legislation. Council will make the necessary employer contribution required under the legislation (currently 9% of the ordinary salary). Employee contributions are optional.

Existing local government employees can continue to participate in the Defined Benefits Scheme.
