Arup Fire has established itself as a global leader in fire safety. Our innovative methods are recognised as a highly effective way of achieving fire safe design, whilst minimising (initial and lifecycle) costs.

A coherent fire safety strategy relies on a combination of regulations and established practice, together with a quantifiable understanding of the physics of fire as applied to the structure, service systems and functional planning of the building.

These design factors need to be compared with human response and the behaviour of active fire safety systems. An engineering approach that embraces all of these aspects, offers the architect and client much greater flexibility in building design and use.

It is essential that fire safety issues be addressed at the conceptual stage of a project. Designs can then be developed in a fully coordinated manner with an established strategy for architectural planning and building engineering to deal with fire safety.

Providing both strategic and hands on services to clients from all parts of the building owning marketplace, we understand the design principles and assumptions, the plant, the contractors, their strengths and weaknesses, and how to specify a flexible best value package.

The performance-based design approach to fire safety is becoming widely accepted internationally by approving authorities as the preferred method for providing appropriate levels of fire safety in unusual or complex buildings or infrastructure that is not adequately addressed by conventional prescriptive building codes.

This approach to fire engineering results in fire precaution measures which are individually tailored to each project. This allows design flexibility, encourages innovation, and can result in more cost effective solutions.
