Cleveland McBride is a boutique international recruitment-consulting firm based in Melbourne. Its Principal, Les McBride, has had more than 21 years in senior executive and professional recruitment, career transition and organisational review consulting - commencing with the world's largest executive search firm, Korn/Ferry International.
Les' early career was with several Australian government agencies, including postings to the Australian Embassy in Rome and the Australian High Commission in London. He was Chief Executive Officer with the first Royal Commission on Intelligence and Security before serving for ten years as Assistant Director General with Australia's security intelligence service, ASIO. He was later the first partner-level "General Manager" of the Melbourne office of Freehill Hollingdale & Page, which was then Australia's largest law firm. He has held a number of principal human resources management positions in organisations ranging from 500 to over 3,000 employees.
Cleveland McBride has two divisions:
- Executive Search & Selection, and
- Health Recruitment.
The Executive Search & Selection Division has undertaken assignments in the manufacturing, resources, communications, financial services, retail, direct marketing and professional areas of the private sector; and in industry associations, not-for-profit organisations and government business enterprises. A number of those assignments have been located offshore - in China, Hong Kong, Philippines and New Zealand. The disciplines covered have included general management, strategic planning, marketing, public relations, sales, accounting, law, engineering, human resources and economics. The level of executive recruitment and career transition consulting has ranged from chief executive officer to first-line manager. Organisational management consulting work has covered aspects of corporate management, strategic reviews and non-executive director remuneration.
The Health Recruitment Division focuses on the appointment of medical specialists, mainly in non-metropolitan hospitals (public and private) and specialist practices, across Australia. These assignments are considered to be the most difficult of all recruitment activities. Medical specialists have been sourced from Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands, South Africa, Zimbabwe, the US and Canada. The specialists have included Anaesthetists, Emergency Physicians, Gastroenterologists, General Physicians, General Surgeons, Geriatricians, Nephrologists, Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Paediatricians, Pathologists, Psychiatrists, Radiologists and Urologists. In addition to recruiting specialists, where they are sourced from abroad, Cleveland McBride guides appointees and hospitals/practices through the complex steps associated with Area of Need appointments - including applications for Area of Need designation, assessment, registration, sponsorship, Medicare Provider Numbers, etc.
The Health Recruitment Division's senior executive assignments have included Chief Executive Officer, Clinical Dean, Director of Medical Services, Director of Nursing, Director of Pharmacy, Director of Corporate Services, Director of Finance, Director of Residential Aged Care Services and Director of Community Care Services.
